Transforming family life – interior photography of kitchen extensions in London

I take the interior and exterior photography of quite a few kitchen extensions in London and it always amazes me how much space can be found on what at first glance would appear a smallish area. From the front many old London houses appear quite small, but when you enter through the hallway and on to the kitchen at the back, a whole new life has been given to these old houses. The kitchens often expand the whole width of the house across the back and incorporate skylights and large opening, sliding or bi folding doors to flood the area with natural light.
These victorian houses are often quite dark inside and adding extensions really brightens them and transforms family life. Often the addition of an opening or doors from the kitchen area to the lounge at the front of the house helps to carry the light through.
Also, the clever use of recessed lighting in the ceilings and under cupboards brings these kitchens to life in the evening when the natural light starts to fade. This combined with subtle garden and patio lighting completes a whole new look once dusk falls.
Garden space is precious in London and often very limited. Courtyard type gardens with clever planting, artificial grass and paved patio areas are practical low maintenance options which keep the outside looking great too. This is so important because the use of large doors and windows across the back mean views of the garden are extensive, so it certainly adds to the aesthetic if its nice to look at.
See below some examples which show these design ideas off really well. All the projects featured here are for Plus Rooms.
